Difference between Air Freight and Sea Freight:
· Air Freight: Typically takes 7-10 days with higher costs.
· Sea Freight: Typically takes 35-55 days with relatively lower costs.
How is Air Freight Calculated?
Air freight costs are determined by the weight of the package. You can calculate both the actual weight and volumetric weight of the package:
·Actual Weight = Weight of the package
·Volumetric Weight = (Length × Width × Height) / 6000
Based on the comparison between actual weight and volumetric weight, air freight charges are calculated as follows:
·If the actual weight is greater than the volumetric weight, freight is calculated based on the actual weight.
·If the actual weight is less than the volumetric weight, freight is calculated based on the volumetric weight.
For example, if a package measures 24cm in length, 21cm in width, and 10cm in height, with an actual weight of 0.7kg, its volumetric weight would be calculated as 24 × 21 × 10 / 6000 = 0.84kg. According to these rules, the chargeable weight for this package would be 0.84kg.
How is Sea Freight Calculated?
Sea freight is calculated based on the volume of the package. You can refer to a table to find out the prices corresponding to different volumes: Please note that the freight calculation rounds up the package volume.
For example, if a package has an actual volume of 0.374 cubic meters, but the freight will be calculated based on 0.4 cubic meters. According to the table, the sea freight cost for 0.1 cubic meters is 950 ZAR.
